The 2023 Speedway Motors IMCA SUPER NATIONALS FUELED BY Casey's brought together some of the fiercest dirt track racing competitors from across the globe to Boone, Iowa. Among them was one of our favorite standout drivers- Jonathan Mawhinney, from Las Vegas, NV.
Competing in the highly intense MODIFIED division, Mawhinney made sure his presence was felt, "Overall, the SuperNationals was a mixed bag for us. On the positive side, our car was super fast and we’re really getting it dialed" said Jonathan. Without a doubt, the highlight for him and the MMS team was an incredible Wednesday heat race win against some of the toughest competition in the country.
However, luck wasn’t on their side the rest of the week with the infamous draws. Trying to qualify in 8 laps against this competition proved to be extremely challenging. "Unfortunately, we found ourselves starting at the back of the heats the next two nights. But as always, every race we learn from. We are continuously tuning, tweaking, and digging, especially when it comes to our car setup" said Mawhinney.
The Mawhinney Motorsports Team and the 12LF race car, with Mawhinney in the seat, exhibited a masterclass in precision, speed, and strategy. From the onset, it was evident that Mawhinney had come to the IMCA SUPER NATIONALS with a clear agenda – to race hard and leave an indelible mark.
